The CFI has a new director

The president's office replaced George Andy Rene with Norma Powell as the new director of the Center for Facilitation of Investment (CFI). The announcement was made on February 14th by the president's office without stating the reason for the change. This is the third time the Martelly administration is changing the head of the CFI. Powell's predecessors Karl Jean-Louis served for 12 months, and George Andy Rene was the head of the CFI for 17 months.

This change comes in spite of the recently announced CFI achievements. Just two months ago George Andy Rene announced at a press conference that in the last fiscal year CFI has supported and supervised 48 private investment projects worth 698 million dollars (US), of which 473 million came from domestic investors and 225 million from foreign investors. This was an increase of 25% comparing to the 2011-2012 fiscal year.

Norma Powell has most recently served as Corporate Relations Officer of Brasserie Nationale d’Haiti (Brana). She has also been the President of the Association of Industries of Haiti since 2012. Before that she has worked as a trader in edible oils in Switzerland, project coordinator for construction sites in Nigeria, and executive director of a cotton trading firm.

The CFI is Haiti's state agency established in 2006 to attract and promote investments.
