A Hilton hotel will be built in Haiti

Hilton International will open its first hotel in Haiti by 2016.

On April 10th, the representatives of Hilton Worldwide and of CAB S.A. (owner of Visa Lodge hotel in Haiti) signed a memorandum of understanding on building a Hilton Garden Inn hotel in Port-au-Prince.

Construction works are scheduled to start in July this year and the opening is planned for 2016.

This 26 million dollar hotel will include 152 rooms and will be located in the proximity of the Port-au-Prince airport.

It will also offer a restaurant and a lobby lounge, a pool, a business center, a fitness center, meeting spaces, Internet, among others.

Danny Hughes, Senior Vice President, Caribbean, Mexico and Latin America, Hilton Worldwide said, "As tourism continues to contribute significantly to Haiti's economic development, we are thrilled to work with Dominique Carvonis, President of CAB, S.A., and her team, and play a part in this growth. With the brand's value proposition and the hotel's strategic location, we are confident the Hilton Garden Inn Port-au-Prince Louverture Airport will be a successful partner in the nation's capital and commercial hub."

Dominique Carvonis, President of CAB, S.A., said, "Our joint efforts with Hilton Worldwide will help boost the environment of this industrial zone, creating nearly 100 direct jobs and 300 indirect employment roles. With Hilton Worldwide's comprehensive hotel training programs, we will develop skilled human resources, thus contributing to increase the standards and quality of service to our guests, and ultimately enhance the prestige of our beloved Haiti."
This is the first Hilton hotel planned to be built in Haiti, and the first Hilton Garden Inn in the Caribbean region.

Almost a century old, Hilton is one of the largest hotel chains in the world, with 10 brands in its portfolio and over 4000 managed, franchised, owned and leased hotels in 91 countries.
CAB S.A. is a new Haitian company created by the MAC S.A. group. MAC S.A. currently owns and operates the Visa Lodge Hotel, a 43-room business hotel near the Port-au-Prince's Toussaint Louverture International Airport.

Since the 2010 devastating earthquake, a few international hotel brands have entered the Haitian market. A Best Western Premier opened last year and a Marriott International is to open next year.
