The Haitian Government launched an employment program for the young people living in the streets

The Haitian government launched a training and employment program for the young people living on the streets of Port-au-Prince. Forty five of them have already received a training in baking, and 75 of them received a training to become drivers. The government encouraged the young people to start their own businesses, and announced that the Bank of the Republic of Haiti is open to offer them loans for this purpose.

This program titled "Chanjemetye, Chanjelavi" (Change Your Career, Change Your Life) initiated by the President and implemented by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor is part of the government’s vision for eradicating poverty.

"I want to see these kids grow and make the most of this opportunity offered to them today through this training they have received," said the President, who also invited the private sector to support this process.

The launching ceremony took place at the Nazon Training Center and was attended by President Martelly, the Minister of Social Affairs and Employment, the Secretary of State for Youth, Sports and Civic Action, a representative of the Bank of the Republic of Haiti, among others.
