Overview

Description of Event:

Please join us to introduce and promote the establishment of a CUNY-wide Haitian Studies Institute (HSI), dedicated first and foremost to the production and dissemination of knowledge through interdisciplinary research and critical analyses about Haitian life in the diaspora and in Haiti.

The Haitian Studies Institute’s (HSI) mission:

1. To contribute to the construction and dissemination of knowledge in general and the advancement of the intellectual field of Haitian studies in particular through interdisciplinary research and practice.

2. To facilitate community outreach and collaborations with emerging scholars, university professors and students, public school teachers and educational agencies conducting research and/or serving Haitian populations and other diasporic peoples.

3. To engage in policy analyses and research practice in order to guide policy formulation and programs directed at the Haitian community and similar ethnic communities.
