• PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (sentinel.ht) - First Lady Sophia Martelly has shown herself to be a dynamic public servant. In assisting the Ministry of Health and Population in implementing its policy, none has been more instrumental. On Wednesday, Martelly through a tweet posted, the First Lady left the perception that she would be seeking public office with some speculating that she will vie for the Presidency and others, a Senate seat.

  The Haitian press has mostly refrained from making too much commentary on the presumed candidacy of the First Lady but among Haitian-American observers, intellectuals and political analysts the question of legality is leading the debate and these questions may cause more upheaval in a very fragile electoral process.
  
  Among the points being made are, Sophia Martelly, having renounced her Haitian citizenship in 1989 can not be a candidate for the Haitian Presidency, Senate or Chamber of Deputies. To these points, they are expecting the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), as it struggles to maintain its credibility, to disqualify her.
