The New Jersey physicians participated in the AMHE as members of the New York Chapter until the New Jersey Chapter was created on October 8, 1988. On January 22, 1989 an interim committee was formed: Jean Talleyrand, Yves Manigat, Gerard Breton, Serge Bontemps, Yolaine Sinady and Claude Macajoux were chosen.
The first General Assembly took place on June 22, 1989. Several projects were decided upon among which were:
- Scholarship funds for high school graduates going on to college.
- Medical health fairs for different social and religious groups in the Haitian community.
- Health forum with “Cercle de l’Amitié” to inform the community about health problems.
- Fundraising dinner/dance every year around the anniversary date of the Chapter in October. And
- Fund raising gala on the second Saturday of June.
The first executive committee was elected on January 27, 1990 with the following members: Jean Talleyrand, president; André Pierre, first vice-president; Gérard Breton, second vice-president; Yolaine Sinady, secretary; Margaret Olibrice, assistant secretary; Jules Péan, treasurer.
From 1994 to date, seven executive committees have been elected to implement the projects of the Chapter. The following members served as presidents: Yvan Neptune, Jean-Marie Augustin, Reynald Altéma, Louis Sangosse, Yvan Ducheine, Margaret Olibrice Saint-Fleur, Hervé Boucard (the sitting one).
