REGION Nord-Est Department: Fort-Liberté, Ouanaminthe, Trou-du-Nord, and Vallière

Nord-Est (Haitian Creole: Nòdès, English: North-East) is one of the ten departments of Haiti. It has an area of 1,623 km² and a population of 393,967 as of 2015.[1] Its capital is Fort-Liberté. It used to be part of Nord Department. It borders the Dominican Republic to the east.

The Nord-Est Department works closely with municipalities, communes, and other emergency management partners to prepare for, protect against, respond to, and recover from all hazards.

The Nord-Est Department must work with the whole community to reduce the impact of natural disasters, reduce risks, improve public safety, protect the environment, and to prepare communities, families, and individuals for all possible hazards. The aim is to be ready in all manner for disastrous events.

Vallière Arrondissement
